Setting Up Your eBay Business

Written by Zach on June 4, 2008 – 7:53 pm -

Setting up your eBay business starts with registering for an eBay account. You have to complete a short form on their website to do this. Next, you need to register for a PayPal Premier account. This will allow you to process credit cards as well as payments between PayPal members. PayPal will charge you a fee for each payment that is sent to you (3.9%+.30 USD for low-volume, 2.9%+.30 USD for high-volume sellers). Now you have to list your first item. To do this you have to click on the Sell tab on the top right corner of eBay’s home page. You then have to type in what your item is. It gives you two options to either use the simplified SYI (sell your item) form or the longer SYI using more customized options. I strongly recommend using the full version of the SYI.

If it’s your first listing, you’ll also have to enter your credit card information to verify your identity (and to ensure that you’re able to pay your fees on your invoice)

It’s that simple.

Skype Saves the Day!

Skype

So today I wake up to see that I have a Canadian buyer with an unpaid purchase. It’s one of the worst problems for someone who doesn’t have an international calling plan. So I begin the traditional unpaid item process, requesting a phone number, and then calling them. But I don’t want to spend a huge amount of money calling to collect ten dollars. I thought for a little while. The closest bid was seven dollars. Should I do a second-chance offer? Relist? That’s when I looked at Skype. All I had to do was download it, sign up put my PayPal account on file, and call Canada. I talked to him, he promised to pay, and I collected my money. I think it’s one of those indispensable seller tools.

I Became a Millionaire on eBay!

Written by Zach on March 1, 2008 – 9:06 pm -

Well, not yet but I’m workin’ on it, ok? Now that I have your attention, let me begin. It all started with a printer that was sitting around the house and has spiraled to me now selling upwards of twenty items a month. What do I do when I run out of stuff lying around the house? Stay tuned.

This is a short description for my upcoming business lessons on what to do, what not to do and on how to start up an eBay business and keep it going. Yup, I’m here to tell you a little about what I’ve learned so far. Now, we’re not limited to just e-commerce here, post anything you think is important about the Internet and technology, or just ask questions. I’ll do my best to answer them or try to give some personal insight.

Oh yeah (shameless plug), in the meantime check out my eBay store at www.newyorkminimall.com.
