Spitzer Resigns in Disgrace Over Scandal

Written by artboy on March 12, 2008 – 9:20 pm -

In a startlingly swift fall from grace, Gov. Eliot Spitzer resigned Wednesday after getting caught in a call-girl scandal that made a mockery of his straight-arrow image and left him facing the prospect of criminal charges and perhaps disbarment as reported by Associated Press Writers Verena Dobnil and Michael Gromley on Yahoo.com.

Scandal Puts Spitzer’s Career in Danger

Written by artboy on March 10, 2008 – 9:40 pm -

Okay, so how tired are we of this sort of headline? As AP writer Amy Westfeldt reports on yahoo.com, Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s political career teetered on the brink of collapse Monday after the corruption-fighting politician once known as “Mr. Clean” was accused of paying for a romp with a high-priced call girl

The Democrat faced immediate calls to step down after a news conference in which a glassy-eyed Spitzer, his shell-shocked wife at his side, apologized to his family and the people of New York.

So, should he resign? Maybe he just needs to go to rehab for 3 weeks and all’s well that smells swell. Chime in y’all.

Clinton Takes on Jon Stewart

Written by artboy on March 1, 2008 – 3:20 pm -

Sen. Hillary Clinton is scheduled to appear on Comedy Central’s ‘The Daily Show’ on Monday, March 3, according to a press released by Comedy Central — the eve of the March 4th primaries in Texas, Ohio and several other less sexy states — to presumably talk about politics, patriotism and pant suits. As we all know, Jon Stewart doesn’t hold a bad interview.

McCain Steps Up Criticism of Obama

Written by artboy on February 28, 2008 – 6:26 pm -

Amongst reports that the Democratic contenders released record-breaking fund-raising figures, Senator John McCain stepped up his critique of Senator Barack Obama on Thursday by accusing him for the second consecutive day of a willingness to hand over Iraq to Al Qaeda. Yeah, I’m sure that is what is on his mind.

To allow context, he was reacting to Obama’s response to a hypothetical question in a debate in Cleveland on Tuesday night, when Obama said that although he intended to withdraw American forces as quickly as possible, he reserved the right to send troops back if Al Qaeda were forming a base in Iraq. McCain backs up his statement by suggesting, “This is about decisions that a president will have to make about the future in Iraq. And a decision to unilaterally withdraw from Iraq will lead to chaos.”

So ask yourselves the question: Iraq forever or Iraq on a time frame?

Republicans Decry Use of ‘Hussein’ in Obama’s Name

Written by artboy on February 28, 2008 – 6:16 pm -

There have been two recent mentions of Obama and Islam. The statement in question, which was released Monday, said the state party is joining a “growing chorus of Americans concerned about the future of the nation of Israel … if Sen. Barack Hussein Obama is elected president of the United States.”

Circulated has also been a photograph of Obama from a 2006 trip to Kenya, in which he is dressed in traditional attire.

Now, I am aware of a number of Muslims that have blindly attached themselves to Obama because of his distant ties to the religion (and by distant I mean non-existent in his personal life). I find this intriguing. It smacks of the conservative right linking up with those politicians that follow their agenda with a disregard of actual policy.

The fact is that Obama is not a Muslim. He has never been according to his own statements. Now, it does not matter if he were or not but I have to question loyalty to someone based on a particular assumption that is not even correct. Why would intelligent people ignore facts? I need a lesson on this. Please, please lay it on me.

I am not an Obama supporter, however I am appalled that these sorts of defaming statements are publicly made and hope voters see through this sludge.

Bush: Duh, We’re in a Daggone Slowdown

Written by artboy on February 28, 2008 – 4:27 pm -

President Bush acknowledged Thursday that the economy has slowed down but said the United States is not headed toward a recession. Hey, baby steps, right? After all, he is about to just hand ch’all $600 in his big “stimulus package.” Wow, like no strings attached! It’s for everyone to pull ourselves right out of debt, to save our mortgages, to make us all run right out and put it back into the economy by buying that … that … uhm, well not very much. That ought’a make this big, bad economic roadblock thingy just go right away, huh? Am I being harsh? Tell me so.

As a final note, the government hopes the pro-growth measure will either “prevent a recession or make one relatively brief.” Make one relatively brief? (Psst, this is the point where you re-read the first sentence.) ‘Nuff said.

Dumb Quote of the Day

Written by artboy on February 26, 2008 – 1:02 pm -

Republican presidential candidate John McCain has been quoted as saying, “My friends, the war will be over soon … for all intents and purposes, although the insurgency will go on for years and years and years,” the Arizona senator said.

Huh?

Both Democratic contenders, Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, now regularly pound McCain over the remark.

McCain, Obama or Chelsea’s Mamma?

Written by admin on February 22, 2008 – 3:54 pm -

Wow, I see the way you are looking at me. Nothing says flash-point like politics. Blue… Red… Purple? Someone needs to tell me what a dang delegate is and what makes some so super! It all depends on what the definition of “is” is I guess. Who just tickles your red, blue, purple-blooded heart? What are the issues? Does Bush really think there’s more than one Internet? Should the government legislate morality? I think Al Gore looked pretty swank in a beard. Which brings up my point, how can a candidate win the popular vote and be resorted to growing a beard, creating a TV network, write books and make an award-winning movie (I’m not sure who got the worst end of that stick!)? Do tell, the world is waiting.
